The perspective. The point of view. The social place from which the perspective arises and addresses a field reveals diverse interests of the agents in action.
We, editors of the scientific journal DEMETRA, look into the field of Food and Nutrition and recognize it as the social space for the training of professionals, scholars and researchers, for the exercise of practices in health care, for the production of knowledge and expertise and for the expression of social movements. Very diverse interests are present in such space; they are constructed and conducted by agents in search of distinction, capital and symbolic material, and more power. By means of competitive disputes, from those clearly expressed to those carefully obscured, individuals and social groups have been (re)producing structures and values, subject to general laws and according to contingencies.
