The Public Defender ́s Office and the defense of the right to adequate housing:
an analysis of the institutional approach in Brazil

The article analyzes how the Public Defender´s Office have been organizing themselves and prioritazing the defense of the right to housing as an institutional public policy, as well as the institution´s contribution to the topic. As a methodological approach, an exploratory research was carried out with documentary analysis to examine quanti-quali data. At the end, a systematic bibliographic review was performed. It was concluded that the Public Defender´s Offices in general have been acting strategically in defending the right to housing, through the gradual installation of specialized centers over the years and that, with the exception of a few States of the federation, it has not been built parameters of action, which has been consolidated and needs strenghthening in regard to integrated work with an interdisciplinar team aimed at defending the vulnerable population in urban land conflicts and guarantee the right to housing.
