Abstract

This article highlights the importance of freedom of belief as a fundamental and personal right, enshrined in the 1988 Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Article 5, Item IV. Disrespecting this right generates religious intolerance, discrimination, and prejudice. The history of civilizations is permeated with religiosity and beliefs, influencing human development both positively and negatively. Belief, as a spiritual value, is protected as a very personal freedom, fundamental right, and personal right. The analysis will be theoretical-bibliographic, using deductive methods with research in doctrines, legal norms, and scientific journals, to observe the importance of respecting this right, essential for the personal rights of human beings. The fight for the security of this right requires collective behavior and education about respect for various religions. Religious intolerance and prejudice violate personal rights. Building an inclusive and tolerant society is crucial to protecting human dignity, a paramount value against prejudice and religious intolerance.
