Abstract

Although the first performance of the play Os Encantos de Medeia, written by Antônio José da Silva, was in 1735, the first printed testimony of its text was only published in 1744 in the collection Teatro Cômico Português. However, the existence of a single manuscript from 1782 with unpublished textual excerpts – 38 years after the first printed testimony and 23 years after the fourth printing of the first printed version – attract attention of AUTOR (2025) and was one of the texts analyzed by him. In this sense, the purpose of this paper, from a philological orientation (SPINA, 1977; BLECUA, 1983; CAMBRAIA, 2005), is to continue the investigation of the direct tradition of the text of this play, adding three testimonies not studied by AUTOR (2025), analyzing the textual differences between them, in order to understand the transmission of this text, as well as raising elements that may promote the elaboration of a critical edition of the text.

Igor Sanches Pinheiro é doutorando em Letras Vernáculas pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, graduado em Letras e mestre em Letras Vernáculas pela mesma instituição. Tem experiência de ensino e pesquisa em Língua Portuguesa e em Língua Inglesa, desenvolvendo pesquisas nas áreas de Filologia e Crítica Textual.

Cynthia Elias de Leles Vilaça, Professora Doutora de Filologia e Língua Portuguesa, Instituto de Letras - UERJ

Cynthia Vilaça é graduada em Letras pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, mestre e doutora em Linguística pela mesma instituição, com estágio doutoral na Università degli Studi di Roma Tre. Desde 2014, integra o corpo docente dos Setores de Filologia e de Língua Portuguesa do Instituto de Letras da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, atuando na graduação e na pós-graduação lato sensu. Além disso, trabalha como colaboradora no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras Vernáculas da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Desenvolve e orienta projetos de pesquisa e de extensão junto ao Centro Filológico Clóvis Monteiro. Tem experiência de ensino e pesquisa em Língua Portuguesa, Língua Italiana e Linguística, com especial interesse nas áreas de Crítica Textual e Linguística Românica.
