This article aims to describe the Portuguese/Spanish linguistic contact on the Brazilian coast. To this end, this study uses as a research source three Travel Diaries of Princess Maria das Neves de Bragança, daughter of D. Miguel and niece of Dom Pedro I of Brazil. These diaries are part of a collection of other notebooks written by Her Highness, which are available on the Portal de Archivos Españoles (PARES) and portray several of her travels around the world. In this case, these three diaries report her passage along the Brazilian coast, on a trip that began in Spain and went towards Argentina, in 1904. This research is based on studies of linguistic contact (Matras; Bakker, 2013; Zimmermann, 1995; Thomason, 2001) and on the concepts of multilingualism (Clyne, 1997; Blanc, 2001) and intercomprehension between Romance languages (Escudé; Calvo, 2019); and describes these contact situations reported in the Travel Diaries, whose main characteristics are exolingualism and the different forms of intercomprehension.
