User embracement in pediatric oncological emergency: difficulties and facilitating factors in child care

Objective: to identify the difficulties and facilitating factors surrounding the user embracement performed by the nursing team in the pediatric oncological emergency. Method: qualitative study, conducted with 12 nursing professionals from the pediatric oncological emergency of a hospital located in Rio de Janeiro. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted between December 2023 and April 2024 and analyzed through thematic content analysis in accordance with Symbolic Interactionism. All ethical aspects were respected. Results: two categories were identified: Difficulties and facilitating factors surrounding user embracement in the pediatric oncological emergency; and Perception of user embracement: pointing to possible pathways. Final considerations: It was possible to identify as difficulties the lack of adequate space for user embracement and the reduced team composition; and as facilitating factors, the availability of quality equipment, team cohesion, and good communication with family members.
