This paper elaborates a brief history of Portuguese-Chinese bilingual lexicography with the aim of pointing out the relationships, on the one hand, between the teaching of foreign languages and the use of dictionaries in China and, on the other hand, the presence of the Portuguese language and the teaching of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PFL) in this country. Thus, in addition to the history of Portuguese-Chinese and Chinese-Portuguese dictionaries, we also discuss how PFL Chinese learners at the tertiary level and in non-immersion situations use dictionaries in their teaching-learning process, as well as what possible contributions Chinese speakers can offer on these topics research. Finally, in the final considerations, we reiterate the importance of China and Chinese speakers in the internationalization of the Portuguese language in several areas (language policy, teaching, learning, research), contributing thus to its promotion and dissemination.
