In this issue of the journal, the present editorial announces three manuscripts describingthe achievements and accomplishments of the Tribute to the Instituto de Nutrição Josué de Castro (Josué de Castro Nutrition Institute) at UFRJ 75 years of history (INJC) at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) in the undergraduate, graduate and extension courses over its 75 years since creation(1946-2021), as an educational and knowledge-producing unit.
Having as founder and first director the illustrious professor Josué de Castro, and teaching as its fundamental mission, implemented in 1948with the Dietitian course, the INJC participated actively in 2009 on the creation of the second course of Nutrition at UFRJ, at the Macaé Professor Aloísio Teixeira campus, and, in 2011, implemented the course of Gastronomy.
The undergraduate trainingis strongly linkedwiththe extension activities, which demonstrate a solid commitment with social demands.
INJC is a pioneer in hosting two graduate programs, joining academic master’s, professional master’s and doctorate with research lines in intra- and inter-institutional partnerships and with international institutions.
All this trajectory is toldin details in the manuscripts that also address the perspectives and challenges of the core activities of one of the most traditional public higher school institutions in Food and Nutrition.
INJC’s social body, by occasion of the jubilee celebrations of this brilliant institution, is proud of their history of struggles and victories, even in face of the many adversities experienced by the public education at different times, and reiterate their commitment with the memory of their patron and with the health and well-being of Brazilian society.
We are thankful to the editorial team of DEMETRA and for the opportunity to tell this winning history.
And may many other jubilees come to celebrate!
