ABSTRACT
Despite the strong political and social connections that Domício da Gama established in the literary circles both in Brazil and in Portugal while he was a diplomat and journalist, his fictional works were almost erased from Brazilian literary criticism during twentieth century. Some recent studies have rescued the author's short stories, which does not fit in the trends of the Belle Époque literature in Brazil. This article seeks to present some reasons for this obliteration, and also discuss Gama’s short stories which questions both artistic production and perception.
