SOCRATES CURRIT BENE: UM BREVE PASSEIO PELA HISTÓRIA DA GRAMÁTICA

Ainda que a linguística normalmente conte seus aniversários apartir do clássico Curso de Linguística Geral (1916), de Saussure,seus primeiros passos podem ser localizados muitos e muitos séculosantes, na Antiguidade Clássica, quando os primeiros pensadores gregoscomeçaram a questionar-se sobre fatos da língua. O sofista Isócrates(436-338 a. C.) afirmava, por exemplo, que a fala nos ajudoua conseguir praticamente tudo que percebemos, pois é através delaque se diferenciam homens e animais (HARRIS; TAYLOR 1997, p.vii).
