Em se tratando de História da Educação no Brasil, causa estranhezacomo certos fatos são tratados apesar de haver publicaçõesque os esclareçam. Quanto a obras mais antigas, a perplexidade émaior já que a proximidade no tempo não poderia justificar algumasomissões. Uma vez publicado o artigo “Os estudos latinos no Brasil”(TUFFANI, 2000/2001, p. 396), ficou claro daí em diante que o cursode Letras mais antigo no Brasil datava de 1925, oferecido pelaFaculdade de Filosofia de São Paulo, mais tarde Faculdade de Filosofia,Ciências e Letras de São Bento. O curso de Letras do Instituto“Sedes Sapientiae”, tido até então como o mais antigo, teve a suafundação em 1933, considerado também o Instituto o primeiro estabelecimentode ensino superior instalado após a reforma do ensinouniversitário de 1931 por Francisco Campos, Ministro da Educação eSaúde Pública.
