RENASCIMENTO DO HEBRAICO: A BUSCA PELA IDENTIDADE DE UM POVO
Abstract
O judeu Eliezer Ben Yehuda (1856-1927), num artigo que estabeleciao vínculo entre o sentimento nacional judaico e a línguahebraica, reconhece que um povo moderno não podia ser bilíngüe.De acordo com ele, o povo judeu deveria desvincular-se das línguasnacionais e empregar uma língua comum que entesourasse as memóriashistóricas e culturais do povo judeu, e que fosse empregada portodas as camadas do povo. Este é um ponto muito interessante, umavez que podemos notar o elemento nacionalista europeu na idéia deYehuda, ou seja, o de que a língua é o principal atributo de uma nação.Entretanto, contrário ao comumente observado, a língua escritaconstituía o fator de união, ao passo que as línguas faladas eram o fatordivisório. Neste viés, o objetivo deste trabalho é investigar comose dá a busca e a construção da identidade do povo judeu numa perspectivalingüística.
