Abstract
Trata-se do primeiro romance de Mário de Andrade - sua experiênciade maior fôlego até então - e a segunda incursão no campoda ficção. A primeira foi o livro de contos Primeiro Andar, de 1926.Amar, Verbo Intransitivo - Idílio foi escrito em 1923-24, terminadoem 1926 e publicado em 1927, quando a batalha modernista atingia oseu ponto culminante. Nesse ano já estava em andamento Macunaíma,considerado pela crítica literária a produção mais significativa damoderna literatura brasileira.
