O presente artigo busca, pelos caminhos da memória, refletir sobre mulheres autoras esquecidas e resgatadas em locais de descarte. A partir de uma visita ao Cemitério dos Pretos Novos, na Gamboa, zona portuária do Rio de Janeiro, e da atenção voltada para uma exposição de rostos femininos desconhecidos e idealizados é que se desenvolveram os questionamentos sobre os motivos que levaram (e levam) tantas mulheres a serem silenciadas e olvidadas. Assim, num entrelaçamento de personagens femininas da literatura brasileira do século XIX e de escritoras mulheres (do século XIX ao XX), o artigo discute como as relações de gênero, mas também as de raça, influenciaram a construção e formação de um cânone histórico e literário.
