El presente trabajo trata de hacer una breve reflexión sobre la condición social de lospersonajes de la novela El lápiz del Carpintero (1998), del escritor Manuel Rivas, y la maneracómo el autor refleja las consecuencias de la guerra civil española (1936-1939). En estaperspectiva, y por medio de la representación del protagonista Daniel da Barca, que padece laspersecuciones de un sistema dictatorial, la obra consiste un llamamiento a la tolerancia como formade evitar que se vuelvan a cometer los mismos errores del pasado.
