El presente artículo propone una lectura de Los Lisperguer y la Quintrala como una obra de ficción literaria, en clave de la entonces actual Gothic Fiction. Específicamente, se analiza el funcionamiento simbólico de la Quintrala como un doble / Doppelgänger del chileno republicano en Vicuña Mackenna y el desarrollo de este motivo en otros escritores como Magdalena Petit o Armando Arriaza.
