O Carnaval de Manuel Bandeira e a commedia dell’arte

ManuelBandeira publicou Carnaval (1919) emum contexto artístico específico, quandomúsicos,pintores e escritores do final do século XIX e primeiros anos do século XX(simbolistas e primeiros modernistas) se inspiraram na commedia dell’arte, teatro de origem popular baseado nas máscaras,na mímica e no improviso. A relação mais estreita dos poetas com a commedia se deu através de um Pierrot decaráter lunar, que descende das pinturas de A. Watteau e da personagem recriadano teatro de funâmbulos por J-G. Deburau. Identificado com o que há de triste esolitário na vida e no trabalho do poeta, é a figura arquetípica de Pierrot queestrutura grande parte de Carnaval,contribuindo para o predomínio de uma atmosfera neo-simbolista, onde amelancolia e o “mau destino” aparecem tratados não em um tom solene e diretamenteconfessional, mas mediados pela commediadell’arte.
