This research focuses on the historical analysis of the Editorial of a daily Newspaper. This research intends to describe the kinds of Discursive Traditions of the Editorial genre in O Mossoroense, how these characteristics are associated with the text extralinguistic elements and the changes occurred in the chosen textual model. Our hypotheses are that editorials have undergone considerable changes in the three dimensions; the Pragmatic, the Linguistic-discursive and the Structural. The theoretical ground is based on the research methodology of Discursive Traditions derived from the Coserian theories of text and text changes (COSERIU, 1979; 1980), (SCHLIEBEN-LANGUE, 1993), (OESTERREICHER, 1994; 2001; 2002; 2006a; 2006b), (KABATEK, 2001; 2003; 2004; 2006; 2008; 2012), along with genre studies by Bazerman (2011a; 2011b; 2007; 2003), Miller (2012; 2009) and Marcuschi (2008).The result of the analyzes showed that there are many changes in the style of the text, the extension, the propositional content, the argumentative strategies - quotation, rhetorical question and marks of orality. However, it maintains prototypical characteristics related to the topic of editorials, the opening and closing of texts, function and communicative purpose.
