Field reports are a fundamental part of cartographic research and becoming a cartographer. At the same time as they are difficult for those who are new to this methodology, we still find few articles that specifically discuss this practice – especially with regard to the invention of strategies to facilitate its writing. Therefore, this article aims to discuss the processes of writing field reports, seeking to help learners of the cartographic method in order to cultivate writing as a process of, both, producing knowledge and inventing oneself. To do so, we based ourselves on authors from different fields of knowledge, such as psychology, anthropology and literature. Among our references, we can highlight the importance of the works of Deleuze and Guattari (2006); Passos, Kastrup, Escóssia, (2012); Passos, Kastrup, Tedesco, (2014) and Blanchot (2011). In conclusion, we understand that writing is not a process controlled by an individual, nor is it a mere expression of an inner self, but a process of producing subjectivity, creating other ways of being in the world. After all, more than generating knowledge or assimilating content, writing a text is a task that produces subjetivities.
