Os capítulos oito e nove do livro Ensinando a transgredir – educação como prática de liberdade, da autora Bell Hooks, são narrativas da experiência da autora, numa exposição de como os estudos acadêmicos feministas demoraram para incluir a possibilidade de sexismo junto as questões de classe e raça a ponto de dificultar a percepção da própria mulher negra em relação à sua realidade social.
