This study stems from a request submitted by the Occupational Health and Safety Committee of Volkswagen AutoEuropa in Portugal, motivated by problems such as work rhythms, shifts, illnesses, and the socio-family impact on workers' lives. Its objective is to analyze the living and working conditions in the company. The research accessed broad database (quantitative and qualitative) collected from documents, interviews, and participant observation. It is based on the analytical categories of work intensification and schedules and shifts. The management and organization of production in the company conflict with the right to health and socio-family life of the workers. The intensive and extensive use of the workforce in continuous, rotating, night, and weekend shifts imposes an effective or potential loss on the development of biopsychosocial capacities, well-being, health, and the lives of workers and their families.
