[EM EDIÇÃO] Realism in simulation-based teaching: a concept analysis using Walker and Avant's method
Keywords:
Health Education, Simulation Training, Concept AnalysisAbstract
Objective: to analyze the concept of realism in simulation-based teaching. Method: concept analysis using Walker and Avant's framework, supported by a scoping review following the JBI framework, and reported according to the PRISMA-ScR guideline. The PCC strategy guided the study selection, with realism as the concept of interest and simulation-based teaching as the context. Results: realism, in nine included studies, was primarily described as the learner's perception that a simulated experience meaningfully corresponds to clinical practice. Representation of relevant aspects of reality and perceived experiential authenticity were identified as attributes. Antecedents included the need to better prepare learners for practice and to enhance engagement in simulation, whereas reported consequences comprised improved learner engagement, confidence, perceived learning, clinical performance, and simulation quality. Conclusion: realism is better understood as a learner-centered experiential construct rather than a synonym of fidelity, reflecting the perceived meaningful correspondence between simulation and clinical practice, maying supporting more coherent simulation design, implementation, and evaluation.
