Cuidados paliativos para o paciente com HIV/Aids: observâncias éticas adotadas por enfermeiros [Palliative care for HIV/Aids patients: ethical observance by nurses]

Objetivo: investigar os princípios éticos adotados por enfermeiros na promoção de cuidados paliativos a pacientes com HIV/Aids, em um hospital universitário da Paraíba. Método: estudo descritivo com abordagem qualitativa, realizado na clínica de doenças infectocontagiosas e no serviço de assistência especializado materno-infantil de um hospital universitário. Participaram do estudo oito enfermeiros. Os dados foram coletados em outubro de 2012, por meio de entrevista com formulário semiestruturado. Tratamento de dados pela técnica de análise de conteúdo. Resultados: da análise, emergiu a categoria temática intitulada: Respeito à dignidade humana, sigilo e privacidade do paciente com HIV/Aids. Conclusão: os enfermeiros inseridos no estudo reconhecem a importância dos princípios éticos, ao adotá-los na promoção dos cuidados paliativos para o paciente com HIV/Aids. Espera-se que este estudo possa ensejar discussões e reflexões sobre essa temática e subsidiar o desenvolvimento de novas pesquisas.
ABSTRACT
Objective: to identify the ethical principles observed by nurses providing palliative care for patients with HIV/AIDS. Method: this qualitative, descriptive study was conducted at the infectious disease clinic and the specialized mother-and-child care service of a university hospital. Study participants were eight nurses. Data were collected in October 2012 by semi-structured interview and analyzed using content analysis. Results: the category that emerged from the qualitative analysis was titled: Respect for HIV/AIDS patients’ human dignity, confidentiality and privacy. Conclusion: the nurses in the study recognized the importance of ethical principles in providing palliative care for patients with HIV/AIDS. It is hoped that this study will give rise to discussion and thinking on this subject and inform the development of new research.
