Objective: to describe the sociodemographic characteristics, clinical conditions and level of functional dependency of adults aging with intellectual disabilities (IDs). Method: this descriptive study, conducted in 2015 at a living-in center of an institution in south Brazil, was approved by the research ethics committee of Santa Catarina Federal University. Data were collected by assessment form and the Modified Barthel Index (MBI), and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: the participants were 54 people with IDs aged 45 years or more, 77.8% with moderate DIs, of average age 48.19 years and 57.4% female. The MBI reported 83.3% as mildly dependent, although requiring command or some type of support and supervision. Conclusion: care for persons aging with DIs requires technologies implemented on an inter-professional approach and respecting their individualities, so as to maintain their autonomy and independence.
RESUMO
Objetivo: descrever as características sociodemográficas, as condições clínicas e o nível de dependência funcional de pessoas com deficiência intelectual (DI) em processo de envelhecimento. Método: pesquisa descritiva desenvolvida em 2015, em um centro de convivência de instituição no sul do Brasil, aprovada pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Os dados foram coletados por meio de ficha de avaliação e Índice de Barthel Modificado (IBM). Os dados foram analisados por estatística descritiva. Resultados: participaram 54 pessoas com DI e idade igual e/ou superior a 45 anos. Destes, 77,8% apresentavam DI moderada, média de 48,19 anos e sexo feminino (57,4%). Mediante o IBM, 83,3% apresentaram dependência leve, embora necessitem de comando ou de algum tipo de apoio e supervisão. Conclusão: o cuidado à pessoa com DI envelhecente requer a implementação de tecnologias de cuidado com enfoque interprofissional, respeitando sua individualidade, a fim de manter sua autonomia e independência.

Objetivo: describir las características sociodemográficas, las condiciones clínicas y el nivel de dependencia funcional de personas con discapacidad intelectual (DI) en proceso de envejecimiento. Método: estudio descriptivo desarrollado en 2015, en una institución en el Sur del Brasil, aprobado por el Comité de Ética en Investigación de la Universidad Federal de Santa Catarina. La recolección de datos se hizo por medio de ficha de evaluación e Índice de Barthel modificado (IBM). Los datos fueron analizados por estadística descriptiva. Resultados: participaron 54 personas con DI y edad igual o superior a 45 años. De estos, el 77,8% presentó DI moderada, promedio de 48,19 años y mujeres (57,4%). A través de IBM, el 83,3% presentó dependencia leve, aunque requieran comandos o algún tipo de apoyo y supervisión. Conclusión: el cuidado a personas con DI envejeciente requiere la implementación de tecnologías de cuidado con foco interprofesional, respetando sus individualidades, para mantener su autonomía e independencia.
