Representações sociais do HIV/AIDS para as pessoas que convivem com a síndrome [Social representations of HIV/AIDS for people living with the syndrome]

Objetivo: analisar os conteúdos representacionais do Vírus da Imunodeficiência Humana (HIV) e da AIDS para as pessoas que convivem com a síndrome. Método: estudo qualitativo pautado na Teoria das Representações Sociais (TRS), em sua abordagem processual. Participaram da investigação 30 pessoas soropositivas para o HIV que responderam a uma entrevista semiestruturada, em um hospital público da rede municipal, localizado no Rio de Janeiro, entre junho e dezembro de 2010. Os achados foram tratados pela técnica de análise de conteúdo. Resultados: emergiram três categorias no processo de análise: os significados da AIDS: entre sentimentos e definições; as imagens da aids: doença incurável, morte e Cazuza; e o enfrentamento da aids: a abordagem de algumas estratégias. Conclusão: ocorreram mudanças nas representações do HIV/AIDS quanto às formas de enfrentamento do diagnóstico pelas pessoas que vivem com a síndrome.
ABSTRACT
Objective: to analyze the contents of representations of HIV/AIDS for people living with the syndrome. Method: this qualitative study was guided by Social Representations Theory (SRT) on a process approach. The study participants, 30 HIV-positive patients, responded to a semi-structured interview at a municipal public hospital in Rio de Janeiro, between June and December 2010. The transcripts were treated by content analysis. Results: three categories emerged: meanings of AIDS (feelings and definitions); images of AIDS (incurable disease, death and Cazuza); and dealing with AIDS (approaches by various strategies). Conclusion: representations of HIV/ AIDS have changed as regards how people living with the syndrome deal with the diagnosis.
RESUMEN
Objetivo: analizar el contenido representacional del Virus de la Inmunodeficiencia Humana (VIH) y del SIDA para las personas que viven con el síndrome. Método: estudio cualitativo guiado por la Teoría de las Representaciones Sociales (TRS), en su abordaje procesual. Han participado de la investigación 30 pacientes VIH-positivos que respondieron a una entrevista semiestructurada, en un hospital público de la red municipal, en el estado de Rio de Janeiro, entre junio y diciembre de 2010. Los hallazgos han sido evaluados por la técnica de análisis de contenido. Resultados: se han observado tres categorías en el proceso del análisis: los significados del SIDA: entre sentimientos y definiciones; las imágenes del SIDA: enfermedad incurable, muerte y Cazuza; el enfrentamiento del SIDA: el abordaje de algunas estrategias. Conclusión: han ocurrido cambios en las representaciones del VIH / SIDA con respecto a las maneras cómo las personas que viven con SIDA/VIH enfrentan el diagnóstico.
