Análise de cortisol salivar como biomarcador de estresse ocupacional em trabalhadores de enfermagem [Analysis of salivary cortisol as stress biomarker in nursing workers]
Keywords:
Estresse ocupacional, cortisol salivar, enfermagem, saúde do trabalhador [Occupational stress, salivary cortisol, nursing, occupational health] [Estrés en el trabajo, cortisol salival, enfermería, salud del trabajador]Abstract
ABSTRACT
Sectional analytic observational epidemiologic study conducted from March to April, 2012, whose object was the levels of salivary cortisol in 103 nursing workers of a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil. It aimed at measuring and analyzing cortisol levels in those workers. Four (04) saliva samples from each participant in a work day were collected. Cortisol was quantified on the basis of the following indices: average increase (MnInc), excretion in the after-wake up time (AUCtrab), and area under the curve from zero in the day cycle (AUCCD). Statistics association between covariates and cortisol levels was assessed by bivariate analysis. The mean values of cortisol levels were: MnInc 10.78 nmol / L (± 6.99), and AUCtrab AUCCD was 32.51 nmol / L (± 21.99) and 107.99 nmol / L (± 61 , 63), respectively. Results in this study help understand the biological pathways by which stress influences health at work.
