O uso da massagem para alívio de cólicas e gases em recém-nascidos [The use of massage to relieve colic and gases in newborns]

Objetivou-se analisar as possibilidades do uso da técnica de massagem para alívio de cólicas e gases em recém-nascidos pelas mães. Estudo qualitativo descritivo, realizado no alojamento conjunto de um hospital universitário do Rio de Janeiro, através de entrevistas semiestruturadas com 10 mães. Os dados, coletados em 2013, foram submetidos à análise temática de conteúdo. O conhecimento das mães acerca de métodos para alívio de cólica e gases é diversificado. Algumas conhecem a massagem, mas nem sempre a utilizam. Em contrapartida, é recorrente o uso de métodos farmacológicos, muitas vezes sem orientação adequada. Elas se mostraram receptivas à demonstração da técnica de massagem por ser de fácil utilização e apontaram as possibilidades e impossibilidades de seu uso no domicílio. Concluiu-se que o ambiente do alojamento conjunto é propício para o enfermeiro ensinar a técnica de massagem para alívio de cólicas e gases em recém-nascidos.
ABSTRACT
This descriptive qualitative study, which examined possibilities of mothers’ using massage techniques to ease cramps and stomach gas in newborn babies, was conducted at a rooming-in facility at a university hospital in Rio de Janeiro, through semi-structured interviews of 10 mothers. Data were subjected to thematic content analysis. The mothers’ knowledge about methods to ease cramps and stomach gas varied. Some were familiar with massage, but did not always use it. On the other hand, there was recurrent use of drug methods, often without proper supervision. They were receptive to demonstration of the massage technique, because it is easy to use, and pointed out the possibilities and impossibilities of using it at home. It was concluded that the rooming-in environment is favorable for nurses to teach the massage technique to ease newborn babies’ cramps and stomach gas.
RESUMEN
Este estudio tuvo como objetivo examinar las posibilidades de utilizar la técnica de masaje para aliviar cólicas y gases en los recién nacidos por las madres. Estudio cualitativo y descriptivo hecho en el alojamento conjunto de un hospital universitario en Río de Janeiro-Brasil, a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas con 10 madres. Los datos fueron sometidos al análisis de contenido temático. Es diversificado el conocimiento de las madres acerca de los métodos para aliviar cólicas y gases. Algunas conocen el masaje pero no la utilizan siempre. En contraste, es recurrente el uso de métodos farmacológicos, a menudo sin la debida orientación. Ellas se mostraron receptivas a la demostración de la técnica de masaje por ser fácil de usar y señalaron las posibilidades e impossibilidades de su uso en el hogar. Se concluyó que el alojamiento conjunto es propicio para el enfermero enseñar la técnica de masaje para aliviar cólicas y gases en los recién nacidos.
