Estudo exploratório, descritivo, com emprego da técnica de análise documental, com objetivo de identificar a ocorrência de acidente por material perfurocortante entre trabalhadores de enfermagem intensivista. Realizado em um hospital universitário, no município do Rio de Janeiro, em 2011, com aplicação de um formulário e coleta de dados nas fichas de notificação de acidentes dos profissionais de enfermagem. Os achados foram tabulados e organizados com emprego do programa Microsoft Office Excel 2003. Os resultados evidenciaram que, no período de 2005 a 2010, ocorreram 39 acidentes, dos quais 19(49%) envolveram enfermeiros. O treinamento em serviço foi disponibilizado para 35(90%) profissionais e a agulha foi o material mais envolvido nos acidentes, com 27(69,2%) registros. Os achados sinalizam a importância de os profissionais de enfermagem seguirem as recomendações das precauções universais no desempenho de suas funções.
ABSTRACT
Exploratory and descriptive study. Document analysis technique was used to identify occurrence of accidents through needle stick injuries among nursing intensivists. The study was conducted at a teaching hospital in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil, 2011, on the basis of forms and data collection from accident report sheets by nursing professionals. Data were tabulated and organized with the use of the Microsoft Office Excel 2003. Results show that from 2005 to 2010, 39 accidents occurred, 19(49%) of which involved nurses. On-the job training was provided to 35(90%) professionals. Accidents with needles ranked highest, with 27(69.2%) records. Findings evince the relevance of abiding by the recommendations in universal precautions upon performance of nursing jobs.

Estudio exploratorio, descriptivo, con uso de la técnica de análisis documental, con el fin de identificar La ocurrencia de accidentes por material perforocortante entre el personal de enfermería intensivista. Llevado a cabo en um hospital universitario en el municipio de Río de Janeiro-RJ-Brasil, en 2011, con aplicación de un formulario y recolección de datos en fichas de notificación de accidentes de los profesionales de enfermería. Los hallazgos fueron tabulados y organizados con el uso del Microsoft Office Excel 2003. Los resultados muestran que, en el período 2005 a 2010, 39 accidentes se produjeron, con 19(49%) enfermeros involucrados. La capacitación en el servicio fue proporcionado para 35(90%) profesionales y la aguja fue el material más a menudo implicado en accidentes, con 27(69,2%) registros. Los resultados sugieren la importancia de los profesionales de enfermería siguir las recomendaciones de las precauciones universales en el desempeño de sus funciones.
