Abstract

Chama-se Sethe uma das protagonistas de um dos romancesmais perturbadores da afro-americana Toni Morrison. Escrito em1988, Beloved consolidou a obra da autora que a levaria ao premioNobel, em 1993.Permeado de lacunas textuais explícitas ou não, escrito com oauxílio do Black English, o livro de Morrison retoma a segunda metadedo século XIX, trazendo como personagens centrais negros escravosem 1855 e libertos em 1873. Entre essas duas épocas o textooscila, e nele Sethe é apenas uma das mulheres que matam.
