Abstract

In an analogous way to her work as an adult fiction writer, Lúcia Miguel Pereira dedicates to writing four narratives aimed at children from the 30s to the 40s. If in those cases, the author dealt with the social occupation of women, in the written narratives for children Lúcia Miguel also shows the restlessness with children’s education especially girls and the role of children's literature in this process of early education and seduction of the little reader. In addition to this concern, issues inherent in the children’ universe, such as the presence of popular characters in folk tales, the relationship with nature, animals, playfulness, child labor and religiosity are remarkable in the writing of A fada menina(The Little Fairy Girl - 1939) Maria e seus bonecos  (Maria and her dolls - 1943), A filha do Rio Verde (The daughter of Rio Verde - 1943) and Na floresta mágica (In the magic forest - 1943) which leads us to discuss the presence of tradition in this author’s legacy.
