This article presents the partial results of an bibliographical review aimed at discussing the concept of “literacIA” and its importance for educators and learners. This concept is configured as a combination of the terms “literacy” and “Artificial Intelligence (AI)” and is based on the philosophy of Paulo Freire and Freire & Guimarães about the relation between education and technology. It advocates an appropriation of AI in education that is based on citizenship, critical of the ways in which AIs are produced and maintained and the discriminatory biases present in them. To this end, literacIA is discussed as a perspective that encourages a curious and critical attitude, capable of reflecting on the harmful effects that surround this technology and using it for feminist, anti-racist and decolonial purposes.
