In the paper, we reflect on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the teaching-learning process, aiming to contribute to the critical debate on AI and education. Thus, its objective is to map papers found in Brazilian scientific production on the topic to list the main propositions necessary for the use of AI in the educational context. To this end, a bibliographic review was conducted to support the analysis and an investigation of the state of knowledge was carried out to identify the propositions. Eight propositions on the use of AI in education are listed, considering a critical approach. It is concluded that AI, as a technological imposition, invites innovation and the reaffirmation of educational processes, as well as provides an opportunity to exercise ethics and human values responsibly in the construction of something new. Given the current context, there is, to some extent, the impossibility of constructing knowledge without taking advantage of its possibilities.
