This article analyzes the school material culture of the Escola Normal de Assú, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, between 1935 and 1940, with the general objective of understanding aspects of teacher professional training during that period. The research is characterized as a qualitative, historical-documentary investigation, grounded in the theoretical and methodological assumptions of the History of Education and studies on school material culture. To this end, it draws on the analysis of institutional and iconographic documents, such as the Enrollment Book and the Diário do Curso Normal (Normal Course Logbook), as well as photographs and graduation programs, seeking to understand how objects and artifacts enabled the development of pedagogical practices and the dissemination of the institution’s values. The analysis of material traces reveals an educational project of the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Love, aimed not only at disseminating professional knowledge but also at instilling values such as discipline, order, and morality. The study reaffirms the relevance of material culture as a primary source for the History of Education, allowing for a deeper understanding of school life and the teacher training project.
