PARTICIPATORY METHODOLOGIES IN KNOWLEDGE PRODUCTION:
contributions of scientific research in exercising children’s right to participation

This article aims to discuss participatory methodologies in knowledge production as a contribution to the exercise of children's right to participation through scientific research. The study considered bibliographic and documentary research sources to identify and analyze these contributions. It was found that participatory methodologies in studies with children facilitate the emergence of voices and the representation of these subjects in the research process, contributing to the narrative of their daily experiences and to a more complex and multifaceted view of the world of children. The sources consulted identified that the use of games, stories, drawings, photographs, dramatization, among other resources and techniques, promote more collaborative and less hierarchical approaches with children. This type of research, although complex, also proves more inclusive by enabling the participation of children in vulnerable situations, at social and personal risk, institutionalized, with disabilities, or other specific characteristics, who for many years were rendered invisible through traditional research methodologies.
