Coordinators:

Jorge Fernando Hermida (PPGE/UFPB) e Gilcilene de Oliveira Damasceno Barão (PPGECC/UERJ)

Abstract of the Dossier

This dossier aims to gather and disseminate academic works that analyze, from different theoretical and methodological perspectives, the challenges, advances, and experiences in the field of Early Childhood Education in Latin America (South America, Central America, and the Caribbean). It is based on the understanding that childhood, as a historical, social, and cultural category, is marked by material conditions, structural inequalities, and educational processes specific to regional contexts.

Thus, it seeks to create a qualified space for academic debate that articulates consistent theoretical foundations, results of empirical research, and accounts of experiences developed in daycare centers, preschools, universities, government agencies, and social movements, contributing to the strengthening of a critical scientific production committed to social reality.

  • Theoretical, epistemological, and methodological foundations of Early Childhood Education in Latin America;
  • Public policies, legislation, and management;
  • Pedagogical practices and educational experiences;
  • Initial and continuing teacher training in Early Childhood Education;
  • Childhood, cultural diversity, ethnic-racial relations, gender, and social inequalities;
  • Research using innovative and participatory methodologies in Early Childhood Education;
