“EU GOSTARIA DE PODER DIZER QUE A LITERATURA É INÚTIL, MAS NÃO É (...)”, UM RELATO DE EXPERIÊNCIA EM UM PROJETO DE EXTENSÃO UNIVERSITÁRIA SOBRE A REMIÇÃO DA PENA PELA LEITURA / “I WISH I COULD SAY THAT LITERATURE IS USELESS, BUT IT’S NOT (...)”, AN EXPERIENCE REPORT IN A UNIVERSITY EXTENSION PROJECT ON THE REMEDY OF PENALTY FOR READING

Abstract

This article aims to present a kind of report on the experiences built from a university extension project that works to promote the remission of sentences through reading in prison units in the State of Rio de Janeiro. Using a participatory methodology, teachers and student monitors working in the project present and discuss literary works with the aim of guaranteeing the redemption of 4 (four) days of the sentence for each book read by the participants, after evaluating the reading report or the critical review corresponding to the literary work read. In addition to holding reading circles in prison units, the project also presents an important training axis based on the discussion of texts by sociologists, philosophers or anthropologists who investigate, criticize and present data on the prison system, in addition to an approach to the relationship between literature and prison, whether through representations of the prison experience or through reflection on the importance of reading in spaces of deprivation of liberty. Based on the report of the experience built within the scope of the project, we seek to reflect on the place and role of literary reading in spaces of deprivation of freedom. The adopted theoretical framework used to produce this critical reflection is based on the contributions of Antônio Candido present in the essay “O direito à literatura” and also by researchers Ana Claudia Ferreira Godinho and Elionaldo Fernades Julião, collected in the volume “Remição de pena pela leitura no Brasil: o direito à educação em disputa”.
