Abstract

This text aims to present an experience report on the use of didactic sequence in the Portuguese language classroom, applied to elementary school students in a school located in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. By reading of an adaptation of the universal literature classic "Around the World in 80 Days" by Jules Verne (2012), it was possible to work with various textual genres. Guided by the guidelines of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC,2014), an interdisciplinary project was planned, involving the subjects of Portuguese Language, Text Production, and Geography for a 7th-grade class. The project allowed delving into a path where language practice is understood as discourse and social production, developing oral expression, reading comprehension, and written production. Pedagogical reading strategies were elaborated to enable students to develop intrinsic reading skills. Through the journey of the character Phileas Fogg, a British knight, it was possible to get to know different cultures and, thus, reflect on our own reality. The theoretical foundation for this experience follows the guidelines of BNCC (BRASIL, 2017), Paulo Freire (2000), Ana Maria Machado (2002), and Rildon Cosson (2006).
