In this article, we propose a discussion about the field of independent publishers, associated with the Brazilian Publishers League (LIBRE), whose predominant editorial line is the publication of children's books. It makes use of the concepts of field, economic capital and sym-bolic capital, adapted/appropriated from the work of Pierre Bourdieu (1996, 2011 e 208) by John B. Thompson (2013), to examine the publishing process. Though the analysis of presses’ websites and online cata-logs, it was possible to identify the city in which they are located, the date when they were founded, the number of children's literature titles, references to awards or nominations in reputable lists and catalogs such as the Bologna Catalog, and references to selection for large-scale purchases, such as those done by the government, by private institutions, and by children's book clubs. The data col-lected supports a panoramic analysis of a particular “logic of the field”, characterized by the close relationship between awards and large-scale sales under-taken by the government or private book purchase programs. The research shows the dependence, in the field, between economic capital — obtained from the sale of books — and symbolic capital — to which the prizes are related.
