Abstract

This article aims to summarize how some types of social actors have been acting in relation to environmental issues. Organized by type of social actor, the text, of an introductory nature, intends to raise research questions on the subject and stimulate multidisciplinary approaches. The information was collected from the specialized bibliography and dialogues carried out with researchers, consultants and public and company managers. After some digressions on the relationship between man and nature, the text analyzes the behavior of Brazilians as citizens and consumers; points to the diversity of orientations in the universe of NGOs; it summarizes the trajectory of environmental policies in Brazil and points to some proposals for action at the governmental level; and verifies the effectiveness of the actions developed within the scope of private companies.
