This article aims at analyzing meaningful family interactions from the children’s viewpoint, which contributed to prevent or attenuate in their adult life the negative impact of their parents’ alcoholic condition. It is a qualitative study, developed with five families selected through key informants out of broader population. Data was collected from November, 2010 to January, 2011 on the basis of semi-structured interviews. Testimonies underwent content analysis. Results point to the organization of a support family nucleus capable of preventing or attenuating the impact of the alcoholic condition upon family members by means of preserving protection and care-based interactions between children and their non-alcoholic parent, reassuring them to cope with the adverse routine. Conclusions unveil a family interaction-oriented nursing practice as a challenge to support continuous and steady family relations.
