O empoderamento de mães de recém-nascidos prematuros no contexto de cuidado hospitalar [Empowerment of premature newborns’ mothers in the context of hospital care]

RESUMO: O estudo objetivou descrever o processo de empoderamento de mães de recém-nascidos prematuros no contexto de cuidado hospitalar, através de uma pesquisa qualitativa com 16 mães de recém- nascidos prematuros de um hospital universitário no Rio de Janeiro. A coleta de dados ocorreu mediante entrevista semiestruturada nos meses de outubro e novembro de 2012 e os depoimentos foram submetidos à análise temática, emergindo três categorias: o desafio de ser mãe de um recém-nascido prematuro; o aprendizado acerca do cuidado do recém-nascido prematuro no processo de empoderamento materno; e os cuidados especiais requeridos pelo recém-nascido prematuro no processo de empoderamento materno. No contexto hospitalar, o processo de empoderamento das mães possibilitou o encontro com a realidade do cuidado ao recém-nascido prematuro. O cuidado de enfermagem transcendeu o emprego de técnicas e/ou tecnologia e os profissionais de enfermagem desenvolveram um potencial de comunicação eficaz, contribuindo para o empoderamento individual materno.
ABSTRACT: This study describes the empowerment process of premature newborns’ mothers in the context of hospital care, through a qualitative piece of research with 16 premature newborns’ mothers at a University Hospital in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil. Data collection occurred through semi-structured interviews from October to November, 2012. Data treatment with thematic analysis gave rise to three categories: the challenge of mothering a premature newborn; learning about the care of premature newborns in the process of maternal empowerment; and special care required by premature newborns in the process of maternal empowerment. In the hospital care context, the process of empowerment of mothers enabled meeting the reality of caring for a premature newborn. Nursing care went beyond techniques and/or technology and nursing professionals developed an efficient communication potential, contributing to individual maternal empowerment.
RESUMEN: El estúdio tuvo como objetivo describir el proceso de empoderamiento de madres de recién nacidos prematuros en el contexto de cuidado hospitalario, a través de un estudio cualitativo con 16 madres de recién nacidos prematuros en un hospital universitario en Río de Janeiro-Brasil. Los datos fueron recolectados a través de entrevista semiestructurada en los meses de octubre y noviembre de 2012 y los testimonios fueron presentados al análisis temático, emergiendo tres categorías: el desafío de ser madre de un recién nacido prematuro; el aprendizaje sobre el cuidado del recién nacido prematuro en el proceso de empoderamiento materno; y los cuidados especiales requeridos por el recién nacido prematuro en el proceso de empoderamiento materno. En el contexto hospitalario, el proceso de empoderamiento de las madres permitió el encuentro con la realidad del cuidado al recién nacido prematuro. El cuidado de enfermería trascendió el empleo de técnicas y / o tecnología y los profesionales de enfermería han desarrollado un potencial de comunicación efectiva, contribuyendo para el empoderamiento individual materno.
