Adesão à higienização das mãos entre técnicos de enfermagem em um hospital universitário [Hand hygiene compliance among nursing technicians at a university hospital]

Objetivo: monitorar a adesão dos técnicos de enfermagem à higienização das mãos e identificar os fatores determinantes para sua execução Método: estudo transversal realizado com 13 técnicos de enfermagem de um hospital universitário de Minas Gerais, em maio de 2012. A coleta de dados realizou-se por meio da observação dos trabalhadores e entrevistas com um roteiro semiestruturado. O projeto foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa, Parecer nº ETIC 0285.0.203.000-10. Resultados: a taxa de adesão à higiene de mãos foi de 35,2%, sendo os fatores facilitadores referidos pelos profissionais: conscientização da transmissão cruzada, proteção individual, disponibilidade de material. Como dificultadores, a falta de treinamento dos profissionais, a indisponibilidade de equipamentos e situações de emergência. Conclusão: verificou-se uma baixa taxa de adesão à higienização das mãos pelos técnicos de enfermagem. Contudo, os participantes do estudo evidenciaram conhecer a sua importância no controle da infecção e a corresponsabilização da equipe pela transmissão de microrganismos.
ABSTRACT
Objective: to measure hand hygiene compliance among nursing technicians and identify determinants of compliance. Method: cross-sectional study of thirteen nursing technician at a university hospital in Minas Gerais in May 2012. Data was collected by observation and semi-structured interviews of workers. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee (ETIC 0285.0.203.000-10). Results: hand hygiene compliance rate was 35.2%, and facilitating factors mentioned by healthcare workers were: awareness of cross infection, individual protection and availability of material. Adverse factors were lack of training, lack of equipment, and emergency situations. Conclusion: hand hygiene compliance rate among nursing technicians was low. However, the study participants showed they were aware of its importance in infection control and of the team’s co-responsibility for transmission of microorganisms.
RESUMEN
Objetivo: monitorear la adhesión del personal de enfermería a la higienización de las manos e identificar los factores determinantes para su ejecución. Método: estudio transversal puesto en marcha junto a trece técnicos de enfermería de un hospital universitario de Minas Gerais, en mayo de 2012. La recolección de los datos se realizó mediante observaciones de los trabajadores y entrevistas con un guión semiestructurado. El proyecto fue aprobado por el Comité de Ética en Investigación, Dictamen ETIC 0285.0.203.000-10. Resultados: la tasa de adhesión fue del 35,2%; los factores facilitadores identificados por los profesionales para la adhesión fueron: concientización de la transmisión cruzada, protección individual y disponibilidad de materiales. Los factores obstaculizadores fueron la falta de capacitación de profesionales, la indisponibilidad de equipos y situaciones de urgencia. Conclusión: se verificó una baja tasa de adhesión a la higienización de manos por los técnicos de enfermería. No obstante, los participantes en el estudio mostraron conocer su importancia en el control de infecciones y la corresponsabilidad del equipo en cuanto a la transmisión de microorganismos.
