Associação entre depressão e qualidade de vida em idosos: atenção primária à saúde [Association between depression and quality of life in older adults: primary health care]

Objetivo: avaliar a associação entre depressão e qualidade de vida em idosos. Método: estudo transversal, envolvendo 593 usuários da atenção básica de Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Dados obtidos por meio de um questionário estruturado, no período outubro de 2010 a junho de 2012, após aprovação dos Comitês de Ética em Pesquisa das instituições envolvidas (Parecer n° 0043.0.410.203-10 e n° 0043.0.410.203-10A). Análise dos dados baseou-se em técnicas descritivas e regressão logística Forward. Resultados: a prevalência de depressão foi de 15,5%. Após controle das variáveis confundidoras, mantiveram associação significativa com o desfecho as variáveis escore qualidade de vida geral menor que 60, depressão autorreferida, sexo feminino, Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Consumption positivo e renda familiar menor que três salários mínimos. Conclusão: conclui-se que é necessário investimento em políticas públicas direcionadas à saúde mental e bem-estar nas faixas etárias mais avançadas e treinamento dos profissionais de saúde para rastreamento precoce da depressão.
ABSTRACT
Objective: to evaluate the association between depression and quality of life in older adults. Method: in this cross-sectional study involving 593 primary care users from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, data were obtained using a structured questionnaire, from October 2010 to June 2012, after approval by the research ethics committees of the institutions involved (Opinions Nos. 0043.0.410.203-10 and 0043.0.410.203-10A). Data analysis was based on descriptive techniques and forward logistic regression. Results: the prevalence of depression was 15.5%. After controlling for confounding factors, the variables that continued to be significantly associated with the outcome were overall quality-of-life score lower than 60, self-reported depression, female sex, positive Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Consumption and family income of less than three minimum wages. Conclusion: it was concluded that it is necessary to invest in mental health and well-being policies for older age groups and in training health personnel in early screening for depression.

Objetivo: evaluar la asociación entre depresión y calidad de vida en ancianos. Método: estudio transversal, involucrando a 593 usuarios de la atención básica de Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Datos obtenidos a través de un cuestionario estructurado, en el período de octubre de 2010 a junio de 2012, tras la aprobación de los Comités de Ética en Investigación de las instituciones involucradas (Dictámenes nº 0043.0.410.203-10 y nº 0043.0.410.203-10A). El análisis de los datos se basó en técnicas descriptivas y regresión logística Forward. Resultados: la prevalencia de depresión fue del 15,5%. Tras el control de las variables confundidoras, mantuvieron asociación significativa con el resultado las variables score ‘calidad de vida general’ menor que 60, depresión autorreferida, sexo femenino, Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Consumption positivo e ingresos familiares inferiores a tres salarios mínimos. Conclusión: se concluye que es necesario invertir en políticas públicas dirigidas a la salud mental y bienestar en las edades más avanzadas y en entrenamiento de los profesionales de salud para el seguimiento precoz de la depresión.
