Preconceito, estigma e exclusão social: trajetória de familiares influenciada pelo tratamento asilar da hanseníase [Prejudice, stigma and exclusion: relatives’ lives affected by asylum-based treatment of leprosy]

Objetivo: identificar se familiares de pacientes com hanseníase, tratados em hospitais colônia, eram atingidos pelo preconceito, estigma e exclusão que permeava a vida dos doentes. Método: estudo qualitativo, com uso da história oral temática, realizado com 10 familiares de ex-doentes de hanseníase segregados no Hospital Colônia São Francisco de Assis, de ambos os sexos, e idade de 44 a 76 anos. A coleta de dados ocorreu em Natal, entre junho e julho de 2014. Entrevistas foram realizadas, gravadas, transcritas e submetidas à análise temática de conteúdo. O projeto de pesquisa foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, CAAE 25922214.3.0000.5537. Utilizou-se instrumento de identificação da rede e perguntas abertas. Resultados: dois eixos temáticos - estigma e preconceito e exclusão social – desvelam a influência da hanseníase no estabelecimento de relações sociais. Conclusão: os resultados apontam para os empecilhos nas relações vivenciadas pelos familiares de ex-doentes de lepra.
ABSTRACT
Objective: to identify whether relatives of patients with Hansen’s disease treated in colony-hospitals were affected by the prejudice, stigma and exclusion that permeated the patients’ lives. Method: this qualitative study, using thematic oral history, involved 10 relatives of former leprosy patients of both genders, aged 44 to 76 years, segregated in the São Francisco de Assis Colony Hospital in Natal. Data were collected, in June and July 2014, by interviews that were recorded, transcribed and the content subjected to thematic analysis. The research project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Rio Grande do Norte Federal University (CAAE 25922214.3.0000.5537). A network identification tool and open-ended questions were used. Results: two thematic dimensions – stigma and prejudice and social exclusion – revealed the influence of leprosy in how social relations were established. Conclusion: the results point to the obstacles that relatives of former leprosy patients experienced in social relations.

Objetivo: identificar si los familiares de pacientes portadores de la enfermedad de Hansen en hospitales colonia habían sido afectados por el prejuicio, el estigma y la exclusión que están presentes en la vida de los pacientes. Método: estudio cualitativo, utilizando la historia oral temática, realizado junto a 10 familiares de ex e3nfermos de enfermedad de Hansen segregados en el Hospital Colonia São Francisco de Assis, de ambos sexos y cuya edad estaba entre 44 y 76 años. La recolección de datos tuvo lugar en Natal, entre junio y julio de 2014. Las entrevistas fueron realizadas, transcritas y sometidas a análisis temático de contenido. El proyecto de investigación fue aprobado por el Comité de Ética en Investigación de la Universidad Federal de Rio Grande do Norte, CAAE 25922214.3.0000.5537. Se ha utilizado la herramienta de identificación de la red y preguntas abiertas. Resultados: dos temas principales el estigma y el prejuicio y la exclusión social muestran la influencia de la enfermedad de Hansen al establecer relaciones sociales. Conclusión: los resultados apuntan hacia los obstáculos vividos por los familiares de los ex pacientes de lepra.
