RESUMO: Este estudo objetiva compreender o significado de ser mulher na sociedade atual, conhecer a concepção de saúde e identificar as motivações e expectativas de mulheres da comunidade sobre sua participação em um grupo educativo. Estudo qualitativo, descritivo, desenvolvido, em 2009, com 11 mulheres de uma comunidade de Fortaleza-CE. As informações foram coletadas em um grupo focal e tratadas conforme a análise de conteúdo. Os resultados evidenciaram que ser mulher é um fato positivo, embora ainda haja dificuldades para conciliar família e emprego. O conceito de saúde está muito ligado ao cuidado e ao cuidar de si. Suas expectativas em relação à participação no grupo foram positivas evidenciando o aprendizado, a criação de vínculos e lazer. A realização de grupos de mulheres na comunidade, com vistas à promoção da saúde destes sujeitos, deve ser incentivada.
ABSTRACT: This qualitative and descriptive study, conducted in 2009 with 11women from a community in Fortaleza, aimed to understand what it means to be a woman in present-day society, to learn women’s concept of health and identify their motivation sand expectations in the community with regard to participating in an educational group. Information was collected in a focus group and analyzed using content analysis. The results showed that being a woman is regarded positively, although it is still difficult to reconcile family and employment. Their concept of health is closely linked to caring and taking care of oneself. Their expectations for participation in the group were positive, and revealed learning, the forging of new links and leisure. The formation of women’s groups in the community, with a view to promoting these subjects’ health, should be encouraged.
RESUMEN: Este estudio tiene como objetivo entender el significado de ser mujer en la sociedad actual, conocer el concepto de salud e identificar las motivaciones y expectativas de mujeres de la comunidad acerca de su participación en un grupo educativo. Estudio cualitativo y descriptivo, realizado, en 2009, con 11 mujeres de una comunidad de Fortaleza-Brasil. Las informaciones fueron recogidas en un grupo focal y tratadas de acuerdo al análisis de contenido. Los resultados mostraron que ser mujer es un hecho positivo, aunque existan dificultades para conciliar la vida familiar y el empleo. El concepto de salud está estrechamente vinculado a la atención y al cuidado de si mismo. Sus expectativas acerca de su participación en el grupo fueron positivas, evidenciando el aprendizaje, la creación de nuevos vínculos y ocio. La realización de grupos de mujeres en la comunidad, con el fin de promover la salud de estos sujetos, deben ser estimulados.
