Abstract

Children suffering from cerebral palsy (CP) are markeddisadvantages that place them at permanent risk with detrimentto their quality of life. Brain injury occurs almost always associatedanomalies associated related to the senses of vision and hearing,abnormalities in communication and dysfunctions of feedingability. The lack of head control, dysphagia and incoordinationbetween eyes and hands, and trunk are some of the difficultieswhich arise when it comes to eating, resulting in an inadequateintake of feeding and the presence of malnutrition. This workconsisted of knowing the characteristics of PC, of the feeding andthe nutritional status of children under 15 years institutionalizedin two special schools, in the city of Montevideo (n=92). This workwas undertaken as an approach the feeding and o nutritionalthe problem the PC, focusing on the clinical picture and on thecharacteristics of feeding. The study showed prevalence of PCspastic quadriplegic. All cases with serious commitment wereaccompanied by disorders in the ability to supply. Childrenwith nutritional evaluation (n=34), more than three quarterspresented malnutrition. It is concluded that motor and functionaldisturbances affect at lunchtime and therefore the presence ofnutritional problems. They require a rigorous control in thequality and quantity of intake to ensure nutritional adequacy.
