Human nature leads man to a constant search for sensoryexperiences. Nothing unites manking as the purpose of sensualpleasure does. Food, the act of eating, is more than a physical, biological and basic need for survival. It is also an action thatinvolves or may involve, each of the senses, so that one canexperience a new, different and pleasant feel. The cinema is in thesame position: it presupposes the search for sensations. In bothfields, cinematographic and gastronomic, sensory perceptionsof different nature occur, but both result in the possibility ofconnecting different senses and feelings that arise from them. The present study aims at demonstrating how cinema constitutesa representation of cultural and social identities. The film Thesecret of a couscous is analyzed from the gastronomic viewpointand the relationships established between the characters arounda specific food.
