Abstract

This article proposes a comparative reading of the work Infâncias: Aqui e Além-Mar, by José Santos and José Jorge Letria, alongside the concepts of childhood and experience developed by Walter Kohan, David Kennedy, and Jorge Larrosa. The central objective is to understand how the poetic memories narrated by the authors articulate with the philosophy of childhood. The investigation adopts the essay as a form (Adorno, 2003), grounded in the fragmentary perspective of Walter Benjamin and Theodor Adorno. The reflection is developed through thematic axes that emerge from the work—such as curiosity and openness, the relationship with the other, imagination, aesthetic sensibility, and the confrontation with limits. The results show that the poems transcend a merely memorialistic register and are constituted as philosophical narratives of childhood, resignified through poetry. It is concluded that the work configures childhood as a space of openness, potency, and creation, considered in its singularity and cultural plurality, and experience as a process of meaning-making, revealing itself as capable of illuminating the human condition in all its complexity.

fabrícia machado fernandes, Unisul

She is a doctoral student in the Graduate Program in Education (PPGE/UNISUL). She holds a Master’s degree from the Graduate Program in Education at the University of Southern Santa Catarina. She is currently a History teacher in the Public School System of the State Department of Education of Santa Catarina and a member of the Research Group on Education, Childhood, and Culture (GEDIC/PPGE/UNISUL).

luciane pandini simiano, PPGE/Unisul

She holds a Ph.D. in Education from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, having completed part of her doctoral studies at the Università degli Studi di Firenze (2013–2014). She earned both her Master’s degree in Education and her Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy from the University of Southern Santa Catarina. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship, funded by CNPq, at the Università degli Studi di Firenze (2022–2023). She is currently the Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Education (Master’s and Doctorate) at the University of Southern Santa Catarina. She teaches in this Graduate Program as well as in the university’s Pedagogy undergraduate course. She is the leader of the Research Group on Education, Childhood, and Culture (GEDIC/PPGE/UNISUL) and a researcher with the ENZO CATARSI Research Group – Family, Adolescence, and Childhood (FAI/UNIFI–Italy).
