Nowadays, Artificial Intelligence, mainly ChatGPT, is becoming more and more popular in several social areas including education. In such a situation, to consider its use in classroom, means to acknowledge its imminent acceptance of this social tool. Therefore, this research aims at analyzing how ChatGPT use can help in the production of academic essays. For our analyses we are theoretically supported by Bakhtin (1992) and Mey (1998) when mentioning language regarding the increased use of ChatGPT within the interaction between man and machine. The concept of mediation in the Vygotsky view, and the concepts of literacy and digital critical literacy support the theoretical basis for its use in classrooms. Methodologically we carry out documental research of the construction process of an academic essay done by an Applied Linguistic graduate student in a federal university in the center of Brazil.
