Abstract

Abstract: This article seeks to present the challenges of anti-racist early childhood education, based on an understanding of the documentary sources produced by the researcher teacher and author of this presentation. The documents mentioned were produced in the context of an educational project based on a curriculum that values the ancestral knowledge of Batuque de Umbigada. This traditional cultural manifestation, from the western region of São Paulo, was seen as relevant to the development of pedagogical practice in early childhood education. It took into account the knowledge produced and disseminated by the Batuque de Umbigada, or Caiumba, community itself, as well as research into this tradition, in order to collaborate on the formative values of an anti-racist education for little children. The theoretical-methodological approach of narrative research, which is a way of narratively producing the theoretical-reflective contributions of the research in order to understand it, was chosen to engage with the theme developed. Throughout the text, readers will be able to follow how the educational project collaborated in the construction of an open and moving curriculum, and how the symbolic, ethical and aesthetic elements of African and Afro-Brazilian culture can teach children about diversity, respect and the elimination of racist actions.
